1951, Sarrià de Ter (Girona)

This essentially self-taught artist has combined visual creation with art teaching in Girona for many years. His creative work includes painting, posters, graphic art and artist’s books. He is the author of experimental and moveable books and a collector of paper toys. In addition to paintings on canvas and paper with combinations of collage and assemblage, he also works with engraving and lithography techniques. He has exhibited his work in Girona, Barcelona, various cities around Spain, in London, Berlin, Amsterdam and several cities in France and Italy. His paintings can be found in various collections and museums around Europe. He currently lives and works in Girona.
His work, which stems from the essence of European expressionism and action painting, soon acquired its own language which gives it a defining internal coherence. The artist uses a wide spectrum of pure colours dominated by blue and red as the sources of a constant tension.

“Artist’s Studio in Girona, 2016”

Currently, he is painting on canvas in a much more intuitive way, in which the application and rhythm of the brushstrokes become a constant rediscovery of the dialogue, in which the forms generated make up the structure of the final composition. Colours of different hues, rapid gestural brushstrokes forming light effects, transparencies and sensations of movement, creating a flow of energy that bursts from the paintings, frames the canvas, forms the composition and alters the order of later viewing. Different intensities of colour overlap to create a complex landscape of new shapes that become titles, names, places, poems, the dreams of new realities that have been created on the canvas. Generating a new pictorial map, a universe of new spaces, signs and magical forms in an imaginative and multicolour way of looking at the world.
The artist is also experimenting with greater intensity in his work with paper, artist’s books, paper sculptures and collage, as well as working with new media, through drawings and paintings with digital applications.

“Galeria Presenta, Girona, 2009”

From the year 2000 onwards there was a more intense fusion of his activities as an artist, teacher and collector, and he combined exhibitions of his paintings with exhibitions of his artistic work on paper related with toys from his collection and the work of his students at the art workshop at the Escola Municipal d’Art de Girona. These displays were complemented by the design of highly creative catalogues.

“Galerie Rampoldt, Berlín, 1990”

During the nineties he displayed his works in numerous exhibitions with an important impact on the international scene. His neo-expressionist and gestural language became more pronounced and increasingly personal.
In 2000, the Museu d’Història de la Ciutat in Girona produced the retrospective exhibition ‘Corominas, els anys pintats, 1967-2000’, which included a catalogue that summarised the more than 25 years of his artistic work, and was curated by the art historian Jordi Falgàs.

“Artist’s studio in Berlin, summer 1982”

During most of the summers in this decade, he worked and exhibited in Berlin at the Galerie Rampoldt.
In 1982 he won first prize in the 4th Biennal de Pintura Contemporània in Barcelona and in 1984 he received the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Artistic Creation Grant. This entire period was summarised in a large exhibition organised by the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Department of Culture, entitled ‘Corominas, pintures 1980-1989’, with 40 large-format canvases painted in Berlin, and a catalogue that included texts by Daniel Giralt-Miracle and Antoni Puigverd.

“Hilldrop Road, London, 1975”

In the seventies he began to participate in solo and group exhibitions of paintings in different places around Spain and abroad. Between 1975 and 1978 he lived in London. He studied painting and lithography at the Essendine Workshop and further developed his artistic language, with its expressionist roots, with different, more experimental and avant-garde works. It was at this time that he started an important collection of paper toys and moveable books.
